Vaillant aroTHERM Plus Installation in North Wales

We are so lucky to work in some beautiful parts of the UK, and our recent install in North Wales was no exception. With rolling hills in the distance and a crisp blue sky overhead, we had the perfect backdrop to carry out a 10kW Vaillant aroTHERM plus heat pump installation.

But it wasn’t just the view that made this job special, it was another step in helping a homeowner make the move to low-carbon, efficient heating.

The Property

The property was a spacious detached home with stunning views across the Welsh countryside. Due to its size and rural location, the house had previously been heated with an oil boiler, a common setup in areas where there’s no access to mains gas.

The homeowner had grown increasingly frustrated with rising oil prices and wanted a greener, more efficient solution that wouldn’t compromise comfort, especially during those chilly winters.

After carrying out a detailed assessment, we designed a heat pump system that would deliver the performance needed, while also lowering the carbon footprint of the home.

The Installation

We installed a 10kW Vaillant aroTHERM plus, one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly air source heat pumps available today. It runs on a natural refrigerant, which not only reduces environmental impact but also helps future-proof the system as regulations tighten on traditional refrigerants.

Before installation, we completed a full room-by-room heat loss survey. This allowed us to tailor the design to the property’s specific needs, ensuring that the system would deliver excellent performance at a low flow temperature, keeping running costs down and comfort levels high.

We also made some upgrades to the heating emitters (radiators), ensuring they were correctly sized for heat pump use, an essential part of ensuring any system performs efficiently.

The Outcome

The installation went smoothly, and we were lucky enough to enjoy a few days of crisp Welsh sunshine while we worked, not something we take for granted!

Now, with the 10kW system in place, the homeowner is expecting seasonal performance in the region of 350–400% efficiency. That means for every 1kWh of electricity the system uses, it’s delivering up to 4kWh of heat, a huge improvement on the previous oil boiler.

In addition to being quieter, cleaner and cheaper to run, the heat pump system also comes with a 7-year parts and labour warranty, giving the customer full peace of mind.

Qualifying for the BUS Grant

As an added bonus, this installation qualified for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), offering a £7,500 government grant towards the cost of the system. We handled the application on the customer’s behalf, ensuring the process was straightforward and stress-free.

7kW Vaillant aroTHERM Plus Installation in Urmston

We specialise in designing and installing low-carbon heating systems that are tailored to the home, not just the hardware. This recent project in Urmston, Greater Manchester, was a great example of how we work closely with our customers to ensure they get the best from their heat pump, right from day one.

The Property

The property was a typical 1960s semi-detached home, common across many areas of the North West. Like many homes of its era, it had cavity walls, average insulation, and traditional radiators. The customer was seeking a more sustainable and future-proof alternative to their gas boiler, with lower running costs and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

We recommended the Vaillant aroTHERM plus, one of our most trusted systems and an excellent match for this home’sneeds.

The Installation

We fitted a 7kW aroTHERM plus air source heat pump, which is compact, quiet, and well-suited to residential properties like this one. Before installation, we conducted a detailed heat loss calculation, examining every room to determine the optimal system size and flow temperature.

For this home, we set the design flow temperature at 45°C, which allowed the existing radiators to be used with only minimal upgrades, saving the customer both time and money. At this flow temperature, the heat pump is expected to deliver a seasonal efficiency of around 390%, meaning for every 1kWh of electricity used, the system generates approximately 3.9kWh of heat.

That’s a huge step up from even the most efficient gas boilers, which max out at around 90–94% efficiency.

Comfort Without Compromise

One of the most common concerns for homeowners new to heat pumps is whether they’ll still get the same level of comfort, especially during colder months. With the aroTHERM plus, comfort is never an issue. These systems are designed to deliver steady, reliable warmth, rather than the stop-start blasts of heat that boilers often produce.

Within days of installation, the customer reported that the home felt warmer, more consistent in temperature, and more comfortable overall.

Environmental and Cost Benefits

By switching to a low-temperature heat pump, this homeowner is set to significantly reduce their carbon footprint, while also enjoying the potential for lower energy bills, particularly as electricity continues to become greener in the UK.

In addition, the installation qualified for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which currently offers £7,500 off the upfront cost of an air source heat pump. We handled the application on the customer’s behalf, making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Built for the Future

This system is built around Vaillant’s aroTHERM plus, which utilises a natural refrigerant. This choice not only benefits the environment but also makes the system future-ready, as heating standards continue to shift towards lower carbon solutions.

As Heat Geek accredited installers and Vaillant Advance Partners, we take pride in designing systems that are both technically sound and homeowner-friendly. That means no guessing, no oversizing, and no corner-cutting, just solid engineering and genuine customer care.

Helping Homes Across the North West

From Cheshire to Manchester, Liverpool to Warrington, we help households make the switch to cleaner, more efficient heating every day. Whether it’s a new build or a classic 60s semi like this one in Urmston, we’ll find a solution that works for you — and keeps you comfortable for years to come.

1st Year Heat Pump Service in Warrington

Our commitment to quality doesn’t stop after installation. We believe in looking after our customers for the long haul — and that includes regular servicing to make sure every system we install continues to perform at its best.

This recent service visit in Warrington gave us the perfect chance to check in on a Vaillant aroTHERM plus air source heat pump we installed just over a year ago, and to highlight why regular maintenance is so important, especially when a property is undergoing other works.

The Background

Twelve months ago, we installed a Vaillant aroTHERM plus heat pump at a family home in Warrington as part of their transition away from a traditional gas boiler. The system was designed to run at low flow temperatures and was paired with appropriately sized radiators to maximise efficiency and comfort throughout the home.

Since the installation, the property has undergone extensive building work with renovations taking place both inside and outside the home. As is often the case, these works led to an increased amount of dust, debris and general disruption, all of which can have an impact on external heat pump units if not appropriately managed.

The Service Visit

During the first year of service, our engineer conducted a thorough inspection of the system. While the heat pump was still operating correctly and delivering heat to the home, we found it needed a thorough cleaning.

External units, like the aroTHERM plus, draw air through their coils to extract heat. Over time, and especially during nearby building works, it’s easy for these coils and filters to become clogged with dust, leaves, and construction debris. If left unchecked, this build-up can reduce airflow and put unnecessary strain on the system, affecting both performance and efficiency.

We carefully cleaned the external unit, cleared all debris, and checked the refrigerant levels, electrical components, and system pressures. We also conducted a comprehensive operational test to ensure everything was functioning as expected.

The Results

Thanks to the thorough cleaning and checks, the system is now back to peak performance. The customer reported no noticeable issues before our visit. Still, they were glad to know the unit was receiving the care it needed and relieved to avoid any future problems before they could develop.

We also took the time to provide the customer with a few simple tips for keeping the area around their heat pump clear, now that construction is nearing completion. These small steps go a long way in keeping any heating system in top shape between services.

Why Servicing Matters

Heat pumps are incredibly efficient, but like any heating system, they need a bit of TLC. An annual service helps to:

  • Maintain efficiency and performance
  • Prevent unexpected issues
  • Extend the lifespan of the system
  • Comply with the manufacturer’s warranty terms
  • Give homeowners peace of mind

At The Heating People, we offer ongoing support for every installation. Whether it’s a check-up, a clean-up, or just some friendly advice, we’re always here to help our customers get the most from their heating system.
