We specialise in designing and installing low-carbon heating systems that are tailored to the home, not just the hardware. This recent project in Urmston, Greater Manchester, was a great example of how we work closely with our customers to ensure they get the best from their heat pump, right from day one.
The Property
The property was a typical 1960s semi-detached home, common across many areas of the North West. Like many homes of its era, it had cavity walls, average insulation, and traditional radiators. The customer was seeking a more sustainable and future-proof alternative to their gas boiler, with lower running costs and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
We recommended the Vaillant aroTHERM plus, one of our most trusted systems and an excellent match for this home’sneeds.
The Installation
We fitted a 7kW aroTHERM plus air source heat pump, which is compact, quiet, and well-suited to residential properties like this one. Before installation, we conducted a detailed heat loss calculation, examining every room to determine the optimal system size and flow temperature.
For this home, we set the design flow temperature at 45°C, which allowed the existing radiators to be used with only minimal upgrades, saving the customer both time and money. At this flow temperature, the heat pump is expected to deliver a seasonal efficiency of around 390%, meaning for every 1kWh of electricity used, the system generates approximately 3.9kWh of heat.
That’s a huge step up from even the most efficient gas boilers, which max out at around 90–94% efficiency.
Comfort Without Compromise
One of the most common concerns for homeowners new to heat pumps is whether they’ll still get the same level of comfort, especially during colder months. With the aroTHERM plus, comfort is never an issue. These systems are designed to deliver steady, reliable warmth, rather than the stop-start blasts of heat that boilers often produce.
Within days of installation, the customer reported that the home felt warmer, more consistent in temperature, and more comfortable overall.
Environmental and Cost Benefits
By switching to a low-temperature heat pump, this homeowner is set to significantly reduce their carbon footprint, while also enjoying the potential for lower energy bills, particularly as electricity continues to become greener in the UK.
In addition, the installation qualified for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which currently offers £7,500 off the upfront cost of an air source heat pump. We handled the application on the customer’s behalf, making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Built for the Future
This system is built around Vaillant’s aroTHERM plus, which utilises a natural refrigerant. This choice not only benefits the environment but also makes the system future-ready, as heating standards continue to shift towards lower carbon solutions.
As Heat Geek accredited installers and Vaillant Advance Partners, we take pride in designing systems that are both technically sound and homeowner-friendly. That means no guessing, no oversizing, and no corner-cutting, just solid engineering and genuine customer care.
